Iniciada em 1976, com a elaboração do projecto, a casa Sidarus constitui um quase paradigma da partilha de cultura arquitectónica proposta para esta conferência. Os proprietários, um casal constituído por uma portuguesa e um Egípcio evoluídos, regressados de experiências vividas no estrangeiro (Itália, França e Alemanha) após o 25 de Abril de 74, pretendiam construir em Évora habitação própria. Esta deveria, naturalmente, corresponder às suas expectativas de actualidade e, ainda, integrar elementos da cultura árabe presentes na tradição construtiva do Alentejo, consubstanciando, deste modo, o essencial do legado presente na actividade de Adel Sidarus, então professor de cultura árabe nesta universidade.
[RESUMO DA INTERVENÇÃO NA CONFERÊNCIA "SHARING ARCHITECTURE CULTURES ACROSS MAGHREB AND INDIA" ÉVORA 6-8OUT06]
Initiated in 1976 with the elaboration of the project, the Sidarus house almost constitutes a paradigm of “sharing architecture cultures” which is the proposed theme of this conference. The owners, an educated couple of Portuguese wife and Egyptian husband, having lived for several years abroad (Italy, France and Germany), came to live in Portugal after the 25th of April 74 and intended to build in Évora a home of their own. This one should, of course, correspond to their expectations of actuality and, still, integrate elements of the Arab culture present in the building tradition of Alentejo, thus giving substance to the essential of the legacy which is present in Adel Sidarus’s activity, who was at that time professor of Arab culture in this university.
